My Writing Journey:

My love of writing got its start in 2nd grade when our teacher had the class cut out pictures from a magazine and write poems about what was in the picture. I cut out a black and white photo of a little homeless girl sitting on a curb in the intercity. Perhaps you know the kind of advertisement I’m talking about, but maybe not. I poured into my poem all the things I thought that little girl was feeling. When I took my paper home from school, my mom sat me down and asked

if I was alright, if I needed to talk about my feelings. I was so surprised! I said, “no, mom, that’s how the little girl feels.” And I discovered the power of words.

In high school, I took several creative writing classes. In one of them, our teacher had us submit 10 pieces of writing to

the school’s anthology as part of our class assignments. I had 9 pieces selected for inclusion. Then I knew I could be a writer.

As a homeschooling mom, I made up lots of imaginary friends and told their stories to my little daughter as we did life. But it wasn’t until closer to retirement age that I found the time to really get serious about capturing the stories on paper. I joined a writers’ guild (DVWG). I joined a Speculative Fiction critique group (thank you, Michelle!) and I got

serious about this business of telling stories. I’ll be honest, trying to grow as a writer can be tough. You have to be

open to critique, to input, to stretch. I cried all the way home from my first critique meeting, then went back for more.

Never underestimate the power of great critique partners. I joined several more guilds – ones that catered to my

particular needs as a writer. I met people, and I learned, and I grew. I’m still on that path and God provides the

assistance I need to use this gift of words that He has placed in my heart. My goals are to inspire, to take my readers

on a journey, to help them see God’s goodness in every situation, to encourage young hearts to make good choices,

to help families grow strong in their value systems.

Homeschooling:

Homeschooling has such an amazing ability to input our value systems into our children’s lives. It gives us the

opportunity to meet each child where they are and help them to grow! Jesus used stories to teach Godly principles

to the crowds. I think that God has put the art of storytelling into each one of us. You’ll find resources here that help

you extend the messages in my stories. (See the Resources tab-Coming Soon.)

Faith:

I am a sinner saved by faith in Jesus Christ. I’d love to talk to you about Him.

Proverbs 3:5-6, Authorized King James Version

5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him,

and he shall direct thy paths.

Romans 10:9-10 Authorized King James Version

9 that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him

from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth

confession is made unto salvation.
